Principal's Message

Dear Franklin Sherman Families,

I apologize for the amount of notifications you have gotten about our three hour early release. Unfortunately, the first form created by the county did not provide us sufficient information in order to plan for 9/23. I also noticed that some families filled this out in August and at this time we did think SACC would help. At this time, SACC will not begin until October and I need to make sure I have the most updated information in order to send your child(ren) home correctly based on your response.

At this time, 121 responses have been collected by the form. Today will be the last day I send it out to all and I will begin having the office call as well as teachers following up.

If we do not hear from you, we will plan to keep your child(ren) here and they will be supervised by an FCPS substitute. They will work on Lexia, ST Math, and read silently.

Please complete this:

I hope to see many of you this Wednesday for our first PTA meeting from 8-9 a.m. You will also receive a Zoom link from the PTA if you’d like to join virtually. We will have FSES staff presenting on what Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS).

Thank you for your continued support.

5th and 6th Grade Choir Registration

Choir Registration Link

Forms due Monday, September 16.

I’m so excited to begin choir this school year. There’s much to learn and sing, so please complete this registration as soon as possible.

5th and 6th grade choir rehearses during the school day, Tuesdays from 9:30 - 10:10 am.

The Musical

The musical is now a part of the choir curriculum, unlike previous years when the musical was exclusively for 6th graders. This also means 6th graders are not required to participate in the musical unless they join choir. Please note that participating in the musical will also require before-school rehearsals from November-March.

THIS OPTION IS ONLY AVAILABLE TO 6TH GRADE

If a 6th grader wants to participate in only the musical, choir will open enrollment again in November when we begin the audition process.

Contact Ms. Nevills with questions or concerns at [email protected]

Principal's Message

Dear Franklin Sherman Families,

Last Friday, we had a fun celebration for September birthdays. It was wonderful to see our students enjoying their special day by getting to take home their own books thanks to our amazing PTA's book vending machine.

I've been making an effort to visit classrooms during morning meeting to participate in the important social-emotional grounding activities. It's a great way to connect with our students and reinforce the importance of a positive learning environment that focuses on building relationships.

Our first PTA meeting of the year is coming up on September 18th from 8-9 AM. Childcare will be provided in the library, so please plan to join us! Your support is essential to the success of our school community. If you are unable to join in person, you do have the opportunity to join us via Zoom.

As we've started this school year, the PTA has generously funded new rugs, projectors, and fantastic spirit wear for our staff. The shirts you saw at open house and back-to-school night were a direct result of their hard work and dedication.

Thank you for your continued support.

If you would like your child to be part of this group, please fill out the Get2Green Interest Form (link is fixed) so we know what your availability is.

Also, send your child to collect a permission slip from Mrs. Essimi, in the library for you to sign by the end of the week.

For questions or additional information, please contact Mrs. Essimi ([email protected]); Mrs. Michalski ([email protected]) or Mrs. Eaton ([email protected]).

Lightspeed Parent Report on Child’s Device Activity

FCPS has tools to help parents know more about their child’s activity on any FCPS device. These tools are provided at no cost to families by Lightspeed, the school division’s internet content filtering service.

Parents may sign up for a Lightspeed Weekly Parent Report, which will provide a list of the top sites their child visited. The report also offers parents the ability to sign up for free access to the Internet Use Parent Portal. Through the portal, parents may pause their child’s access to the internet on their FCPS device during non-school hours.
