READING BY 3RD GRADE
Outcomes
- Of the 29 students identified as MLLs in grades 1-6, 100% will demonstrate overall progress as measured on WIDA by the February 2025 administration.
- Universal Goal: 80% of students in grades K-6 will perform on or above grade level expectation as measured by their designated state or district assigned universal screener by spring 2025.
Strategies
- Increase teacher content knowledge of evidence-based literacy instruction aligned with science-based reading research to improve implementation of new core curriculum.
- Increase opportunities for English Language Development through use of embedded strategies during whole group instruction and intentional small group instruction focused on specific student needs.
- Increase use of data to plan instruction and monitor progress during intervention to ensure that students demonstrating risk master foundational skills.
ELEMENTARY SCHOOL MATH
Outcomes
- By Spring 2025, the pass rate on the Math unadjusted SOL scores will increase from 89% to 95% for students in grades 3-6 as measured by the SOL pass/fail benchmark.
- By Spring 2025, the pass rate on the unadjusted Math SOL/VAAP will increase from 69% to 74% for students in grades 3-6 with disabilities (35 students total), and 73% to 78% of English Learners (51 students total) as measured by the SOL/VAAP pass/fail benchmark.
Strategies
- Increase teachers' content knowledge and implementation of the 2023 FCPS mathematics program of studies.
- Increase teacher's implementation strategies related to Shift 8: from looking for correct answers towards revealing student thinking.
- Increase teacher implementation of explicit instruction and other components of effective mathematics intervention.
PORTRAIT OF A GRADUATE
Outcomes
- 100% of students in Grades K-3 will participate in Portrait of a Graduate Presentation of Learning (POG POL) through direct instruction on POG skills and the opportunity to reflect based on the five POG attributes and skills.
- 100% of students in Grades 4-6 will participate with POG POL through direct instruction on POG skills and the opportunity to participate in a POG POL activitiy. Additionally, students will complete a self-reflection based on a component of their POG instruction during the academic year.
Strategies
- Select a POG skill from the vertical articulation charts (Resource 1) to focus on with students and explicitly teach the skill; if at an IB school, select an ATL skill from the IB & POG Crosswalk (Resource 2) to focus on with students and explicitly teach the skill.
- Utilize POG Reflection Cards (Resource 1) and Sentence Strips for Reflection (Resource 2) to create opportunities for students to reflect on growth in POG skills; if at an IB school, utilize ATL Reflection Cards and ATL Sentence Strips for Reflection (Resource 3).
- Create opportunities for students to share their growth in a POG POL (Portrait of a Graduate Presentations of Learning - Resource 1) or, for IB schools, ATL POL (Approaches to Learning Presentation of Learning - Resource 2).
