This is my first year teaching at Franklin Sherman Elementary.  Prior to coming to Fairfax County, I taught 1st grade for two years in Prince William County.  I am originally from Pittsburgh before attending Penn State University to earn my degree in Early Childhood Education and Early Adolescents.  Ever since I played school when I was little my dream was to become a teacher.  I am very passionate about my job and love working with the students!

Ali Smith

Pennsylvania State University, Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education with minor in Special Education

Ms. Smith grew up in South Jersey prior to attending Penn State. As a South Jersey resident, she is a big Philadelphia sports fan and a big lover of the outdoors. During her time at Penn State, she served as an intern for the Professional Development School and was able to present her classroom research on public speaking for children at an Inquiry Conference in State College, Pennsylvania. She also served as a Penn State Dance MaraTHON Chair for three years. Her work as a THON Chair directly benefitted The Four Diamonds Fund. This fund covers all medical bills for children at Hershey Medical Hospital battling various forms of childhood cancer, so that families can be relieved of the stress of paying for treatment. She was able to spend many weekends volunteering at the hospital with the children. As an educator, Miss Smith believes that all children are unique and need individualized scaffolds of support and enrichment to meet their potential.
